Position Overview
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting clinical operations at AIS healthcare facilities. In this position, you will work alongside physicians and other healthcare providers to deliver high-quality patient care, assist with clinical procedures, manage electronic medical records, and ensure a smooth and efficient patient experience from check-in through discharge.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Obtain and record patient vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight
- Assist physicians and providers during examinations and clinical procedures
- Administer injections and perform venipuncture/phlebotomy as directed by supervising providers
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) and other diagnostic procedures as required
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available
- Assist with minor surgical procedures and sterile technique as directed
Administrative Duties
- Document patient information, medical history, and clinical findings accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
- Schedule patient appointments and manage provider calendars
- Coordinate referrals, lab orders, and follow-up appointments
- Answer patient inquiries and communicate effectively with patients and families
Compliance
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and maintain strict patient confidentiality
- Follow OSHA standards and infection control protocols
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant clinical environment
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program
- Current CMA certification through AAMA, AMT, or equivalent
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
- Working knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on clinical experience in a healthcare setting
- Experience with clinical procedures including phlebotomy, EKGs, and injections
- Familiarity with scheduling and front-office administrative workflows
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Sufficient manual dexterity to perform clinical procedures
- Visual and auditory acuity necessary to assess patient conditions
